Gordon Cleland (Cello)
London native, Gordon began his musical studies playing the piano at the age of 5, cello at 14 and also had lessons in voice and pipe organ.

Gordon received his Bachelor of Music (Magna cum laude) from Boston University, an Associate of Music Degree in piano performance from the University of Western Ontario and Master of Music – Performance Cello from Boston University. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and won a second prize in chamber music from the national level of Kiwanis Festival.

Gordon has been teaching since he was in high school. In 2001, he began teaching using the Suzuki method. In addition to teaching, Gordon has also been busy adjudicating music festivals across Canada.

Gordon likes watching the growth of each student. It especially gets exciting to see people come back after the summer at a new higher level than they were last year.

In his spare time, Gordon enjoys listening to early 20th century music – Frank Martin (Petite Symphonie concertante for t string orchestras, piano, harpsichord and harp), Walton (violin, viola and cello concertos), Scriabin, Weill (Gordon states that everyone should hear his “Seven Deadly Sins of Small Town Citizens”), Szymanowski (listen to the violin concertos), Debussy, Shostakovich, etc.

Aside from performing, Gordon enjoys cooking and drawing pictures of the places he has visited.
